This is not necessarily a big deal. Nearly half of that latency is going to be 
introduced by a NZ ADSL connection anyway.

I believe hosting in New Zealand is good (lower latency, supporting NZ 
companies, etc.) but I wouldn't really call it a necessity.

The major exception to this is if you have high bandwith latency sensitive 
content (streaming etc.).
