imnsho, Yes you are! 
Keep on with the building of the package.
This is the main reason that I will never ever again have anything to do with 
a 'binary' distribution. In my exp. they are all glamour and no guts, 
garnished with packages suffering from bit-rot, and dependency hell.
( I'd agree that that particular hell is a lot cooler than it used to be, but 
my exp. is that all the distributions suffer from it. )

Some binary distributions are worse than others but none are anything even 
remotely near 'perfect'. OK, my favourite, the source distribution called 
Gentoo, which I have used for about the last 4 years is not 100% perfect, but 
it's a great deal better than all the nonsense you have been put through by 
that Mepis thingie.

ps I have just built Gambas in about half and hour. It works, i.e. It pops up 
3 windows, but goodness only knows how to actually use it. :-)
