Hello,

Anyone tried resetting the password on a ThinkPad 600E? This ThinkPad runs
Mepis (so not totally OT), but the CMOS battery died, and I cannot update
the CMOS settings without a password. I didn't think there was a password
on it (it was from TradeMe) but anyway...

I suppose the EEPROM could have become corrupted by LM-Sensors, but these
days if it's loaded on a ThinkPad it detects that and won't run.

So far I believe only the Power-on Password is set. I have tried shorting
the pads next to the memory modules and powering up, which is supposed to
clear the power-on password, but no dice. The next thing to try is hook up
the EEPROM to a reader and dump the contents (which might allow me to glean
the password).

If you, or someone you know, has had a go at this I'd be keen to hear about
it. Either way, I shall post my experiences to the list. At the moment,
my experience comprises pulling the keyboard off, removing the modem and
PCMCIA cage, and the CPU. Today's lesson is- the EEPROM is under the CPU.
