At the time, I was of course a novice, but I was already interested in migrating to Linux, so perhaps I didn't count as a "real" novice. The Artistic Director, though, not particularly computer-oriented at all, and so a legitimate Linux novice, also found KDE garish, and is happy with Gnome. What makes a window manager seem "more like (MS) Windows" or "different from (MS) Windows" may differ from person to person. =====Andrew
