First off, question whether that's necessary.
I find 256k ok.
Only goes into swap if I forget to close huge apps.
before starting a compile.

google search on "kingston memory upgrade T23 Thinkpad" will give you a 
host of suppliers and an idea of the cost.
( ~US$50 +- for a 256kb module )
