No Steve it's not that simple in my view. How can anyone do that
if he cannot get his machine into a state where it's possible to set up
remote access?

Phil posted at request for help at 13.43 on the 20th.

Nothing showed on the list until I posted at 17.22 on the 20th having
spent 2 hours on the phone from New Plymouth.

I am familiar with Mandrake/Mandriva (since 1999) and I could not
establish the source of his problem from here which is why I posted
requesting that a local guru contact the OP and arrange to _*LOOK*_ at
what his problem was.

The tooing and froing we've seen today is exactly why linux "geeks" get
the ELITIST label.

Dammit guys, Phil asked for someone to contact him after he had spent
some time trying to solve the problem. I did some 2 hours after Phil
had posted, I couldn't solve it from here because of communication
difficulties.

All it needed was the elusive 'someone' to extract his bloody finger
and poke 7 bloody digits, which where posted in the first post, into a
dial pad and speak to the fellow.

Come On!! Is it any bloody wonder M$ has us by the balls when it comes
to encouraging new or inexperienced users, especially those who have
difficulty communicating!
