</ELITIST mode on>
Sorry John, but I have been so busy getting a project off the ground
that I will be reporting back on when it's actually going that I missed
Phil's initial query.
The prerequisite numbers have now been dialed and arrangements made to
sort the problem.
I agree with those who suggest I am not the best person, but I am 'a'
person and two heads are always better than one.
As for your toll account, ffs, we've got an astrisk group and ppl
setting up national dial so that no one has to pay a bean for national
calling... I have to confess I am not across this at present, but it
more than clear to me now that I need to join in and get some thing
going if good people like you are going to put your personal time in to
our area. Please accept my applogies on behalf of myself. [1]
Please feel free to install Skype and call me any time.

Isn't this cause for a quick 'how to setup remote access using no-ip or
similar, and get IM up and running at the same time' article on the wiki? That
way, no end of us could fix this in our coffee break, and tell them what's
happening ( well, once X is working! )??

No Steve it's not that simple in my view. How can anyone do that
if he cannot get his machine into a state where it's possible to set up
remote access?

Phil posted at request for help at 13.43 on the 20th.
Nothing showed on the list until I posted at 17.22 on the 20th having
spent 2 hours on the phone from New Plymouth.
I am familiar with Mandrake/Mandriva (since 1999) and I could not
establish the source of his problem from here which is why I posted
requesting that a local guru contact the OP and arrange to _*LOOK*_ at
what his problem was.
The tooing and froing we've seen today is exactly why linux "geeks" get
the ELITIST label.
Dammit guys, Phil asked for someone to contact him after he had spent
some time trying to solve the problem. I did some 2 hours after Phil
had posted, I couldn't solve it from here because of communication
difficulties.
All it needed was the elusive 'someone' to extract his bloody finger
and poke 7 bloody digits, which where posted in the first post, into a
dial pad and speak to the fellow.
Come On!! Is it any bloody wonder M$ has us by the balls when it comes
to encouraging new or inexperienced users, especially those who have
difficulty communicating!
