There are no good-quality CD/DVD blanks on the market, only medium
quality and rubbish. This is due to consumers going shopping with this
list of priorities:

  1. how much is it?
  2. how much is it?
  3. "
  ...
  8. does it work?
  ...
  99. how long does it keep my data safe?

The burning isn't done by k3b, that at best assembles the data to burn.
Main suspect is the burner drive being incompatible with some media
brands, not whether it's Lose/Lin, although closed-source burning
software like Nero contains a lot of code to fix problems with crappy
drives. CDs are less problematic than DVDs, things have stabilised more
(and development has stopped a while ago).

As the burn success also depends on your burner model, I suggest to try
a pile of brands and then stick with one, and to stick with big brand
names and to forget about no-name.

I hate to think what you had before that, but they sell some bigger
brands too - however where you buy those from is irrelevant. Well as
some added spice, brand-blanks have been counterfeited...

Further to $SUBJECT, erasable CD/DVD media is notoriously unreliable.
