Make up your mind what brand you want to go with, then use pricespy.co.nz. I still find tastech.co.nz very competitive. > Burning something now, for another CLUG member, onto the disc Rik gave me > this > week and K3b has slowed down to 4x (Verbatim CD-R) Always look at the ATIP information. If k3b doesn't show it to you, cdrecord -atip dev=/dev/cdrecorder will, though depending on $distro you may have to battle with Jörg's obnoxious drive addressing schemes. For CD-R I always found Verbatim DataLifePlus acceptable. The non-DataLife are lower quality so I forget about those straight away when I can get something better for basically no more money. I find the Sony CD-R unconvincing, look at the gone-yellow top after 3 months. TDK are prob ok. Not sure whether Imation is much different to Verbatim. For DVDs the situation is more difficult and much dependent on the burner. My selection would be (in this priority): Verbatim, Sony, Imation. Princo, chain brands, and everything I've never heard of gets bowled over the fence with a baseball bat. I don't accept blanks as trade for burnt free software because I don't want to have to deal with any substandard media or with what doesn't work in my burner. Happy to burn on supplied media though (on supplier's risk). Volker -- Volker Kuhlmann is list0570 with the domain in header http://volker.dnsalias.net/ Please do not CC list postings to me.
