That would solve the dual use issue well. Although given that I'd prefer
using an old laptop than a chunky PC machine, ISA cards don't really work.
Perhaps the hardware unit (phone to IAX over Ethernet) is the way to get the
handsets running ... but I'd probably need another one for the interface to
existing POTS, yes?

phoning to the UK @ 1p/min and a local Birmingham number @ GBP3/month flat (
and free for them to phone! ) has saved me a fortune, and made my parents
somewhat happier.


I guess the costing is an issue of the backend SIP provider, and nothing to
do with Asterisk itself. Are there any providers that would take on NZ calls
as well as UK calls, at a decent rate?
