Gmail "conversations" are not the same as email "message threads".

As a general rule, gmail "conversations" are simple chains of messages
where the subject line is the "same".
Email "message threads" are a hierarchical multi-threaded list of
items based off the Message-ID numbers that are by protocol guaranteed
unique.

I use gmail a lot, and I'm very sad that they don't have proper
threading :-( I miss mutt, but not quite enough ... :-)
