Not really, but if Mark Shuttleworth wants to splurge his hundreds of
millions giving away distro CDs, I'm not going to stop him, but yes it
would be sensible not to abuse Mark's kindness.

It's not really a 'mirror' per se. i.e. it's not connected to the
Internet. You have to turn up at the St. Albans Community Resource
Centre with a minimal amount of small change and copy the files
yourself using the Windows facilities available.

A memory stick, of sufficient size, or a USB rotating hard drive is by
far the best.
Remember that your filesystem has to be Windows compatible, and if you
are going to get an image of a DVD of something over 4GB I understand
that that means NTFS.
My exp. has been that using the ntfs-3g progams to make the filesystem
is not reliable.
I recommend - believe it or not - that one should use Windows-XP to
make the filesystem on your portable usb drive.

The Centre has CDs, and I think DVDs, for sale very reasonably, but
you can take your own.

What URL web address are you suggesting?

No. The CD copying facilities are the Windows program called 'NERO'.
Take care that you select the facility which allows a bit-for-bit copy
from the file to the CD.
A Google search on "nero cd iso burning instructions" as the search
term gives dozens of good-looking documents.

Please be aware that the folks who volunteer as helpers at the centre
have not been trained up about cutting CDs at all. So you are on your
own except on Tuesday afternoons, when
Wesley is there, and Saturday between 1:00pm and 3:00pm when Gordon
Taylor is on duty.

DVD copying is quite a time-consuming business, so if at all possible
please try to get there as soon after 11:00am as possible, because
their computer room gets busy in the afternoons.

I will be going over there the day after tomorrow - this Friday - in
the afternoon to update the SuSE, Puppy-Linux, and the SystemRescueCD
files in the archive.

We have decided to give this exercise a 6 month trial. That's to say
that if you don't use it, it will go they way of all mortal beings
during the second week end of April 2008. OTOH if it's a rip-roaring
success with lots of CDs and DVDs being created, I'll be having a whip
round to buy a large disk drive especially for the purpose. ( St.
Albans have offered a DVD writer )
The drives will be installed in a Linux machine so we'll have K3B, the
Gnome equivalent, as well as CDrecord for the command line aficionados
among us
