Sorry, but I have to disagree a little. DSE are not consistent. I'm using one with Ubuntu Feisty (in use 24 hrs a day) and one with Ubuntu Gutsy right now. No problems, but the two (visually identical) devices have different USB ID's. Maybe you've got yet another variant or a dud unit? Got an "lsusb" output?
