For pdf files I use xpp. Find the file you wish to print in your file manager, select open with...xpp. In xpp select options, under page ordering make your choice with page set and sit back. note the correct way to reinsert the pages into your printer and repeat the process.

I've got a brother hl-1430 hooked up to my laptop running ubuntu 6.04. I
do quite a bit of duplex printing of pdf's and and odf's.

Bad form replying to my own email, but I thought I should clarify what I
need to do, basically manual duplexing ie: printing the even numbered
pages stopping, then printing the odd numbered pages.

To aid googling, what you want isn't duplex, it's the ability to print
a defined subset of pages.

Ross has suggested a KDE solution. Gnome (on my Ubuntu VM at any rate)
does the job with
Print->Options->Left pages only for OOo
Print->Page Setup->Only Print->Odd sheets for evince.

Good enough?
Roy.

Hi Roy,

That's nearly good enough, although it's seems you can't open pdf files
in open office which most of the stuff I need to print double sided is
formatted as. I'll try your suggestion for googling
Thanks
