The two computers that I am using are called calso and ted. claso is the client. (the one I want to log in to ) I commented out the line DisplayManager.requestPort: 0 in /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config and restarted ted is the server ( the one I will be logging in from ) from a terminal in ted I typed X :1 -query calso this started a X session on ted. I presume that this was connected to calso. The problem is that no xterm was started
