I'm kinda lost at the moment.
anyone got any ideas for what I could do for a job?
I'm willing to learn, I know a little bit of C#, and willing to learn other
languages
rather not go back to school
I know Hardware as well (who doesn't? :P)
Think of formal qualifications as "Furniture for your Mind", choose
the best most fun furnishings.
The employers think of them as a rating plate for minds. Hokay, he can
handle that stuff, should have no problem with mine...
I once (in another place and time), interviewed a guy from the most 3rd
world part of a 3rd world country who had mostly attended an
exceedingly 3rd world polytech, but had to go look for work for
financial reasons.
I strongly recommended him.
Why? Because he came with this amazing array of fun / good /
interesting personal projects he had hacked together / worked on /
done. And he could jabber on for hours why he done this or that.
Clearly he had massive potential.
So your choices are...
* Go get a formal qualification. Choose something fun.
* Do a bunch of really fun / interesting stuff, and get use to
explaining why it's Good / Fun / Interesting.
You say you know hardware well... well, not many people actually do. I
promise you one thing. Moore's Law has driven computing throughout my
career.
It will drive _embedded computing_ throughout yours.
Just making CPU's faster is only half the trick these days. They are
getting more and more and more peripherals / I/O ports / A/D
converters / GPS / .....
On devices costing a dollar or two.
If you make non-PC Desktop hardware and software (think embedded
linux) sing and dance... there is a big future for you.
ps: If you choose the right courses... you can do both. Get silly
Human Resources Happy Making Qualification _and_ ride the wave of
embedded devices in everything.
