Hi-ho, Have you considered doing some volunteer work to get some IT experience? Not necessarily Linux related, but just so you can get some solid experience in an organisational setting...
If you're still living at home it might be a good way to get some runs on the board, as it were. For an idea of the stuff that is out there in CHCH, go to: http://www.volcan.org.nz/search.php and select the information technology category and see what you find. For what it's worth, there is a big difference between being a Linux geek and an employable Linux geek. You'll find that a chunk of that difference is experience and attitude, qualifications are somewhat incidental, as John suggested.. Cheers, Me.
