^ What John said. Spot on. ( Although if you're after linux stuff, C is 
probably better than C#! ).

The other thing, of course, is getting to the interview in the first place. So 
your CV *must* stand out from the rest, and your covering letter *must* grab 
their attention. Spend loads of time learning how to sell yourself. The front 
page of the CV must garner enough interest to actually turn to page 2, which 
will get you to the interview.

You may need a few of these, as you'll be fighting HR with large companies, but 
in smaller ones may the person weeding out the CVs may well be your prospective 
future employer.
