don't have a sky box, concept relies on a lirc transmitter switching
the sky boxes channels as though its a remote control.

yes that is quite possibly true, a demo of how simple something is
does encourage newbies though (although watch me stuff it up and
that'd have the opposite effect)

Well no aerial, and no DVB-T card, and no present ability in mythtv to
play the streams - without a patched version that is.
