Maybe the OP could clarify exactly what the requirements are. If he needs to boot Ubuntu on machine that currently runs Vista, the wubi install is easiest, and resizing the the partition and dual-booting the machine would be "better" but more time-consuming and potentially troublesome. If running both OSs simultaneously is required, Jim's VM suggestions are the way to go. Reading the question literally, the best answer is to reformat the HDD and replace Vista with Ubuntu. Roy.
