Indeed, but you said that you had:-

So you actually do still want to buy a laptop?

My suggestion is to re-orient the mind to so that it allows you to get
ex-lease laptops which may have run commercial software in a previous
incarnation. You can remove windows by booting a system rescue disc in
the 'clean computer' mode - type 'dban' at the boot prompt.

Alternatively you might well be able to get machines which were
previously under a corporate licence and thus can be bought free of
'contamination'. They do come up from time to time

Sorry but you'll have to touch the keyboard just the once while
Windows is still installed, but remember that you won't have to
actually _run_ any Windows.

I have found my T41 ThinkPad runs Linux _perfectly_ and yes it plays
the youtube things,  DVD discs, and hd avi files perfectly.

They are available ex-lease from many sources for just a few hundred
dollars. Battery will be nearing the end of it's useful life, but can
be replaced easily.
