Thanks guys for all your suggestions. I'm pretty sure it's not a dns problem. Even if I leave the server for a few hours and do a dns lookup it's still pretty quick. It's all done internally. The Internet is not involved here.
If it is something like session tidy up or the application starting up then there probably isn't anything I can do about that. I'll have a look at mod_wsgi, but if it is either of the problems above then I don't think it will help. I just did a test. I logged in and saved my password in the browser. I closed the browser and reconnected. Authentication and getting to the first wiki page was pretty quick. That sort of indicates it might not be a problem with authentication unless authentication details are cached for a period of time on the web server. I restarted the web server. Someone else logged in, and then I logged in and the wiki page came up pretty quickly. Brett, how would I go about adjusting the worker timeout?
