The old broken one says 2000 mA (or 2A) but the specs say only 1000mA
is needed. It also has a symbol with two horizontal lines, the top one
is continuous and the bottom is broken, like this:
I have a really vague and old memory of putting a oscilloscope on the
output of something like this. (just mucking around as you do.)
Far from the rated spec it was smooth and flat. The nearer to the
rated spec the bumpier/noisier it became.
ie. If you like your music without 50/100Hz "buzz", it may be better to
go overspec, rather than bang on spec, for the output current rating.
But as I say, this is a very vague very old memory of informal mucking
about, (oo shiny oscilloscope toy thing, shiny shiny) nothing
scientific going on here.
I have an even older memory and fuzzier memory of an analysis of a
zener diode based rectifier circuit that predicted such behaviour.
But hey, as the hardware blokes say... never trust a programmer
bearing a screw driver and crocodile clips...
