Sorry - I was in a rush last night so didn't pick that up.

True. Although it can be improved by port forwarding a random port on
the router to vnc and have a good password on the vnc server.

Using a reverse ssh tunnel is definitely a better way. 

Make sure the ssh connection sends a keep alive packet every few minutes
to keep the connection open.
