If I may pop in here for a moment. Linksys NIC's, particularly LNE100TX
versions 4.0 to 4.2 are terrific when used with the tulip driver provided
in any later version 2.4.x kernel. One particularly neat thing about the
linksys NIC... When used with a Linksys switchbox like a EZXS88W (or
larger) and good cables, they'll do a 100bit duplex that's... well...
quite fast. Fast Ethernet really means something with this brand hardware.
The bad reputation came from Linksys shipping their nics with bad linux
drivers. Later versions are package with a driver diskette that has a
simple text file in the linux driver section, pointing to a url to get
"good" drivers. :') Back in "those days" I was able to buy Linksys
LNE100TX's for next to nothing.
