You're exactly correct. I do backups on my home lan here and it takes a 
goodly time to move 1-2G even at 100Mbps. That said, my question regards a 
server I'm building for a small business client and the fact that 3Com 
costs 3x LinkSys ($15 vs $45US) doesn't matter much.

99% of the network gear I buy is LinkSys. The stuff just works and cheap 
too.

When is it worthwhile to put 2 NICs in a server? I hadn't considered that 
for this (small) server.
