xfce will never be bloatware.  It also will never be the KDE type
desktop with icons all over the place.  There is the occasional bog, but
if I wait longer than a day to read mail, the bug has usually been fixed
by the time I read the mail.  For those of you who are really into guis,
the xftree program is quite good, or a lot of people use the rox filer
under xfce.

Instead of "we're much too busy to do that," you read comments like
"I'll fix that as soon as I've had breakfast."  The only requests that
are rejected out of hand are the requests for bloaty functions.

Except for the occasional use of an audio mixer, I can't remember the
last time I actually used the kde or gnome menus.  xfce is it for me. 
It worked equally well on FreeBSD.
