Never said anything about InstallShield...you did. I also didn't say that I didn't know how to compile. I just don't consider typing ./configure, make, make install to be some kind of test of manhood. I'll compile the files if necessary but I like the ease of use of rpm's. I prefer to update, remove, and rebuild packages using rpm. However, I understand perfectly well why rpm's aren't always provided. I simply think a person's knowledge of how to compile programs to be a dumb test of anything.
