You realize, of course, that now you are on a list. <grin>

As you have noticed, it does take a little bit of administrative
smarts to work around some of the gentoo wrinkles, but you obviously
passed the test with flying colors.

I, on the other hand, have only IDE disks and a cable connection and
no laptops, so it was incredibly simple for me.

Now that you're up and running, you can always do emerge --fetchonly
for update packages and let that truck away overnight; then do the
actual emerges the next day.
