The problem with the scenario above is that when the usb cable is plugged
into the camera, it is no longer possible to keep taking pictures. My
hope is that this camera, or any other type of digital camera, while
hooked up to a linux computer via the usb port, can be used to take
pictures, and those picture can immediately be made available to a program
running on the linux box for further processing.  The idea would be to
rename, label, and transmit the photos as soon as they are taken. Having
to take a group of photos, then plug in the cable, etc.  might be too
much of a bother in a real world situation.
I would assume that this isn't possible, because its essentially trying to mount the same filesystem twice, read-write, no less.
