You could always try one of the "rookie" distros. Lycoris, Lindows, or Xandros. Don't have a clue of how they would do on a laptop. I'm actually looking into testing one of these on my brother, who is also completely computer illiterate. He just got an old p133 pc and DSL. He wants to get a new pc and I've been thinking of having him order one of the Wal-mart specials with either Lindows or Lycoris. But I don't know squat about either of them so I have been putting it off. Good luck.
