Could it be simply a misunderstanding. That the reference was confusion over 
having such an append statement for booting from scsi hard drives? Since it 
worked for ide-cd  burning the author left well enough alone. or, is 
lllllllama right for kernel <2.3.x ?

What I *do* know is that *if* you want a genuine ide modular device 
(such as an ls120 = ide-floppy), you need to to have that module load 
_before_ ide-scsi, otherwise it will not be seen as such (harking back to 
llllama's statement).

If someone is on a 2.2.x kernel and could try the modprobe method, it would 
assist making the SxS a little less fearsome.
