What's wrong with making entries in /etc/fstab to automagically mount the
shares? Back when I had a Win98 box connected to the network, I had an entry
in fstab as thus:
//<Wrkgrp>/<ShrNm>/   /<MntPt>   smbfs   password=<ShrPasswd> 0  0

I could then use whatever file management program I wanted to access the
files.
