it's (probably) because the vmlinuz can't find it's modules via loadlin. The
message you're getting is because a request is put out to major-minor
(doesn't matter which), and there is supposed to be a driver loaded that
recieves and handles that major-minor number. Ordinarily, the floppy driver
is included monolithic in the kernel, but this doesn't appear to be the case
for you.
loadlin is coupled to a kernel image present in the dos directory, I assume
you've copied a col2.4 kernel there? It's not near good enuff but was
a good try.
You probably don't want to hear this, but use lilo to boot. I can garantee
you wont BREAK your system IF you have a dos-bootable fdisk floppy.
read up on lilo-> on the site below.
IF and when you strike trouble, as in cannot boot nothing, boot your
dos-floppy and type the magic words
fdisk /mbr.
make absolutely certain you can do the above before proceeding.
I could help you further here with lilo, but it will take up a lot of
uneccessary bandwidht that is better explained in lilo-> on the site below,
there's even an example of a dual boot windows/caldera config file you can
use.
loadlin is linux on training wheels, and you're hurting because of it.
