*** I can confirm that. I went to the Windows nest here in Paris (Surcouf, Ave. Daumesnil for the initiated) and saw XP home edition going for approx 1900Ffr which would be around 292 US $! The small Linux counter, which shares the wall with the M'$oft booth, offers SuSE Pro for 492Ffr which is 75 US $. Still, there were so many people populating the Windows booth one couldn't get to the counter. All those pickled youngsters, dressed up women and sharp looking young professionals being so proud to belong to the elected "few"... reminded me of sheep. So much as a matter of fact I instantly had the urge to imitate one very loudly.
