Phew. > I had this exact same problem last weekend and found that same ubuntuforums thread, this would be a deal breaker for newer users. I could understand a beta or RC not getting right but a final release? Booted into the live disk it took me a while to figure out that grub needed to be installed into sdb6 in the live environment (sda6 normally). Last time I needed to do this there was a way of determining the partition a grub folder or file is on to tell me the correct partition but I didn't quickly find that on google, I ended up looking at a backup copy of my fstab file instead which pointed me to /.
