GMail as a "client" is ok. Trying to access it through any other
client invariably sucks, and it doesn't have most of the features
you're asking for, but it works everywhere, it works without being
installed, and it doesn't crash when I have an inbox 1Gb in size.

( Every client I've used so far for IMAP access to Gmail has either
fallen on its face because of Gmails weird IMAP implementation, or
simply gagged on the huge volume of mail )
