It sounds unusual. The original modem should be standalone, with no specific settings needed on the PC. The new router should also be standalone, with no specific settings required. The PC should be configured to use DHCP, and should work with any network. Do they know that the Woosh router is connected and working? It could be that the PC is working, but that the network is down. Regarding PC network configuration, is Wicd available in Ubuntu? I have been using it for over 2 years and it connects to anything (I use it for wired and wireless connections on my laptop, which I move around a lot). It does a better job than any of the other network tools. Finally, Ferry Rd runs sort of East-West. What is the nearest crossing street, or suburb? Unfortunately the City is mostly shut down today because of snow.
