Okay, I finally got around to biking the ~25Km to Rangiora so that I can discuss this with the staff. No computer lab but there is an area with lots of power plugs and tables where we can set up some demonstration machines. Also I might be able to talk the staff into letting us use a display board (for want of a better term). There is also Free WiFi. There isn't really any room for an installfest but we can still educate the public. A couple of other thoughts, this library closes early on Saturday so could we move to a different day? The head librarian said that Wednesdays are particularly good. How much would it cost me to take you up on that? I also want to hand out some discs with a selection of major applications (LibreOffice, Thunderbird, etc) in their Windows form. Finally I am deeply tempted to get some one page quick guides made at a nearby printing and copy business to give out. My rough plan is: 1: Spend a little time each day from now to then writing documentation. 2: Asses posibility of a Rangiora team (the documentation can be used by the South Christchurch team if this doesn't go ahead). 3: Talk to Philip, have him print out as much as affordable some time a head. 4: Try to draw as many Linux manuals in the Waimakariri district to Rangiora Library as possible around 5 days ahead of the event. 5: Print out documentation at 9. 6: Set up display once that is done. 7: Set up some computers that Blatantly show off Linux. I can bring two. 8: Spend until five educating the public. 9: Pub across the road for an early dinner. Anyway everyone, I'll need some help setting up and manning the display so if you are interested please leave a reply. -- Ryan McCoskrie North Canterbury, New Zealand sourcelinksnotes.comyr.com
