Definitely going to have to learn how to use fetchmail properly. That's one of 
the things that I haven't learnt to do at the command line properly. I found 
the issue however. I was cutting KMail of while it was negotiating with 
pop.gmail.com over the date from which further emails should be downloaded.

Did that last sentence make sense?
