there was one other thing I neglected to mention, which made the fresh install well worth it. On the box which had been updated multiple times to the next ubuntu release, virtualbox could not be made to work. This was a pain - by going to a fresh install, I have virtualbox working...

For those not in the know, virtualbox is a bit of software that emulates (quite nicely) a computer. One can install windows, linux (whatever) onto the virtual box and it runs just fine. So for me, I have a win XP program that does VOIP - testing it is a pain, cause a proper test requires a minimal win XP box with no libraries or development libraries etc. Quite nice to run my win xp program on a virtual box computer, and hear audio
from the win xp program running on a linux computer..

But I did wonder, can one browse with impunity using any browser (provided it is running inside a virtualbox environment)?

Cheers,
  Derek.
