Hi,

I'm trying to copy an 18GB file from my linux partition (ext3) to an
external hard drive that is NTFS formatted (gets used mostly by windows
machines hence ntfs) which has 40GB free space.

No matter what I've tried the copy gets to 2GB and then fails with
"Error splicing file: Input/Output error".

My linux version is Linux Mint 12. I've tried also booted to live cd of
linux mint 13 (same error) and Puppy Linux 4.2 (couldn't get working at
all).
I have tried two different USB HD's - same error on both.
No spaces in any of the path names.

Googling for error the only thing I can see left to try is a different
version of Linux, as there seemed to be some suggestion that this is a
known bug in ubuntu that is yet to be fixed.

Can anyone recommend a version of Linux (the smaller the better) with a
liveCD that may succeed at this task?
Or, anyone know how to get around this type of error?

Regards,
  Bryce Stenberg.
