IME the older white one works, the newer, faster black one doesn't. They're both Huawei, I think. You need to have the package "usb-modeswitch" installed. Most distros have it. For $99 you can get a 3G Wifi hotspot device from the 2 degrees kiosk in most malls. It's the size of a small cellphone and it's normal WEP/WPA/WPA2 wifi that works with any Wifi capable device, including Linux. It has a web interface for doing 2 degrees top-ups. It's also Huawei.
