There are always a bandwith limit when asking video stream over usb pci agp
ide ... bus :) that is why a mjpeg hardware compressor in the webcam help,
but you loss some picture details. Setting a usb HCD per webcam give better
performance (a PCI to USB add on card is not very expensive) and allow
maximum frame rate on each webcam. Becare to remove all others usb device set
on the same usb bus, specially the low one (mouse keyboard...).
luvcview record the mjpeg stream in an avi container if needed, you can used
ffmpeg or transcode to change the video codec, I used xvid or h264 with very
good compression performance :)
