Thanks for the info. In the meantime I tested the cam with Windows XP and I'm 
really disappointed with the framerate and image quality, so I'll return the 
cam and keep the QuickCam Sphere MP.

Your webcam doesn't follow the UVC standard, so it isn't (and won't be) 
supported by the Linux UVC driver.

Have a look at the SPCA5xx driver. Looking at 
http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html it should support your webcam.
