as a temporary workaround you could try turning off automatic exposure 
using either luvcview or Logitech's own uvcdynctrl (from their libwebcam
distribution). i use the latter:

  ./uvcdynctrl --set "Exposure, Auto" 1

while you don't get the fancy great-picture-in-low-light feature, you do
get much better performance and stability.
