Sorry for the late reply.  The main reason Rockboy is so slow is simply 
that no-one has spent any time working on it, since it's initial 
implementation about 4 or 5 years ago.

Philip - I'm sure you would get lots of encouragement and help from the 
developers in #rockbox IRC channel (and probably even more encouragement 
from excited users) if you wanted to work on either Rockboy (e.g. 
porting a lot of the optimisations from iBoy) or on a new GBA emulator.
