I've lost track of where you're trying to get your ip address from. 
Is the box supposed to be running it's own dhcp server, or are you
trying to get it from an external source like your cable modem?

If it's an external source, I'd try assigning an ip address manually
(see 'man ifconfig' for the correct syntax) and trying to ping the
dhcp server.  That should help determine if the card works with Linux
at all.
