Hello all, I need help to install my onboard network card. I use Red
Hat Advanced Server 2.1 and my motherboard is Intel Sentry Server
S875WP1-E. I'd tried to install driver from its CD and download from
the net but still hadn't success. Base on the readme file, the driver
can be use for kernel 2.4.x and had been test to kernel 2.4.18. I use
kernel 2.4.9. The problems were like these:
1st step:
Wrote in readme file :
To build a binary RPM* package of this driver run 'rpmbuild -tb
<filename.tar.gz>'. Replace <filename.tar.gz> with the specific file
name of the driver.
My file name is lanv84.tar.gz. As root, I tried :
# rpmbuild -tb lanv84.tar.gz
And I got error like these :
error : Name field must be present in package : (main package)
error : Version field must be present in package : (main package)
error : Release field must be present in package : (main package)
error : Summary field must be present in package : (main package)
error : Group field must be present in package : (main package)
error : License field must be present in package : (main package)
2nd step:
Because of error, I opened KDE and extract the file to a
directory(/home/lan) and I got 2 folders : docs and driver. In folder
driver there are 2 file tar.gz : e100-2.3.40.tar.gz and
e1000-5.2.39.tar.gz.
More information in readme :
1. Move the base driver tar file to the directory of your choice. For
example : use /home/username/e1000 or /usr/local/src/e1000
2. Untar/unzip archive :
tar zxf e1000-x.x.x.tar.gz
3. Change to the driver src directory
4. Compile the driver module :
make install
The binary will be installed as :
/lib/modules/[KERNEL_VERSION]/kernel/drivers/net/e1000.0
Based on that information I tried the following steps:
1. Move to the directory that I'd made
# cd /home/lan/drivers
2. Untar the file
# tar zxf e100-2.3.40.tar.gz
I got 1 folder : e100-2.3.40. In that folder I got src folder and
some file.
3. Move to src folder
# cd /home/lan/drivers/e100-2.3.40/src
4. Do the make install command
# make install
Got error :
Makefile:101: *** Linux kernel source not found. Stop.
I tried e1000-5.2.39.tar.gz file and got the same result. How do I
solve the problem? Thx.
