Hi,

Thanks for the response, but I'm such an impatient person that I've already
reinstalled, only takes 30 minutes anyway lol. I would like to learn the
solution anyway just in case it happens again!!

I duel boot Mandriva 2006 and Ubuntu (currently 6.06, previously 5.10) using
grub boot loader installed by Ubuntu. I have Lilo boot loader installed on
the root partition, hda1, for Mandriva. Does grub call this or not? I don't
see the Lilo boot screen.

Ubuntu detected my Mandriva installation automatically. I have had absolutely
no problem (for 8-9 months) until Yeasterday.

I could still boot into Ubuntu, so anything I need to do can be done from
there. I also have several live distros available including RIP (Rescue Is
Possible), so no problems there.

Unfortunately both conf's will be changed now so I can't help you there.
